The Top Ten Most Asked “Junior” Questions
1. Why are you called the “Juniors”… are there “Seniors”, too?
The Winfield Juniors are part of the Illinois Federations of Women’s Clubs (IFWC) which in turn is a part of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC). The GFWC began in 1868, and originally the clubs were divided by the age of the members- The “Juniors” and the “Generals”. Today, in Winfield, we have combined those two clubs and are known as the “Juniors” and we welcome women of all ages and backgrounds into our membership.
2. Are members required to donate a certain number of hours?
We hope, not require, that each member can give 12 hours annually. We welcome all contributions however big or small.
3. What is the age range of Club members?
Women of all ages and backgrounds are welcome to join the club. Currently, the age range of members falls between 30-55 years.
4. What’s the main purpose of the club?
Our main purpose is to contribute to the betterment of our community. Typically, we support about 30 organizations in DuPage County with philanthropic contributions. Most importantly, we have a lot of fun striving to fulfill our goals each year.
5. Is it a lot of work and time?
Certain projects and positions involve more work and time than others. It is entirely up to you as to how much work and time you want to give.
6. Does it cost money to join and stay involved?
Annual membership dues are $31.00. New members are asked to pay a one-time fee of an extra $5.00 to cover the cost of their nametag so the first year you will pay a total of $36.00. Associate members pay $41.00
7. Is this club a good place to meet other women in the community?
The club is a great place to meet other women in the community. We sponsor several social events throughout the year, as well as the many opportunities to work with each other on our projects. We have such a diverse group of women that there is always someone to turn to for information, for support, or for friendship.
8. How often do you meet?
We meet the second Thursday of each month from September through June. The board and some activities committees may require additional meetings.
9. What is required of me if I join?
The real requirement would be to figure out how to serve your community and enjoy yourself. The more involved you become in the matters of the club, the more fun you will have. We are all busy women and we understand that you can only give so much of yourself. The contributions you are able to make, however big or small, will be valued by the club.
10. What are some of the clubs main projects?
Currently, we have Good Old Days in September, Snacks with Santa in December, Juniors Jog in Spring , WJWC Scholarship, and Candidate’s Night (when there is a local election), just to name a few.
